The Ursinus Bears Football Team heads on the road for the first time this season as they face Rowan.

The two teams have met just once in history, and it was in the second round of the 1999 NCAA Tournament in Glassboro. The Profs won 55-0 over the Bears on their road to playing in the Division III National Championship game where they lost to Pacific Lutheran, 42-13.

LAST GAME: Ursinus improved to 2-0 on the young season last Saturday as they defeated Kean 30-14 in the second of two home games. The Bears scored on their first drive of the game before adding a field goal at the end of the first quarter. Ursinus answered a long Kean touchdown with two touchdowns of their own and took a 23-7 lead in the second quarter. The Bears added one more touchdown in the third quarter and shut out the Cougars in the second half to preserve the win. Four different Bears scored touchdowns in the contest while the defense had two sacks and shut down the Cougars rushing game.

FOR THE BRAND: Senior tight end and punter Billy Cook earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the week following an impressive showing on special teams against Kean. The dual-position Cook averaged 42.3 yards per punt in the Ursinus 30-14 win over Kean this past Saturday. He dropped two of his three punts inside the 20 yard line while also converting a successful fake punt attempt in the second quarter with a 20-yard rush as the Bears faced fourth-and-7 from their own 29-yard line. Cook also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass out of his tight end spot to get the Bears initially on the board in the first quarter. He has served as the team's punter in each of his last three seasons on the team.

COOL, CALM, and COLLECTED: Junior quarterback Jalen Bradford continued his steady start to this first full-time season as QB1 of the Bears in their win over Kean. Bradford tossed three touchdown passes for the second-straight week while topping his previous career-highs set against Alvernia with 21 completions and 260 passing yards. Bradford also added 39 yards on the ground off 11 carries.

FIRST STATE CREW: Three Ursinus wide receivers that played high school football in Delaware made a big impact on the Bears passing game against Kean. Sophomore Cody House added to his impressive start to the season by catching a 43-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the second quarter while leading the team in yards with 64. House is now up to 11 catches for 152 yards and four touchdowns in two games this season. First-year Marvin Atkins caught the first two passes of his collegiate career which included a 46-yard reception in the second quarter. Junior Caden Johnson hauled in a 22-yard reception in the third quarter that started a Bears scoring drive that was his first reception of the season.

DIALED UP: Senior linebacker Brett Gross made life difficult for Kean in the second half on Saturday as the Bears shut out the Cougars during the final 30 minutes of the game. Gross finished the game with five tackles (two solo) and his first sack of the season that ended a Kean drive just inside Ursinus territory. Gross, a first team All-Centennial pick in 2022, has 10 tackles on the season and crossed the 200-career tackle plateau against Kean. Gross currently sits 14th all-time in Bears history for career tackles.

JUMP ON IT: Sophomore wide receiver Markel Roberts-Jackson scored his first collegiate touchdown against Kean last Saturday. Roberts-Jackson hauled in the Bears lone touchdown of the second half with a 21-yard reception. He finished the day with three catches for 39 yards and ranks second on the team with six catches while adding 65 yards in two games. Roberts-Jackson had already made his mark on Ursinus Athletics last season when he won the Centennial Conference Indoor High Jump gold medal in February as a first-year athlete.

PATIENCE PAID OFF: Senior defensive tackle Michael McCuen has been a key force on the Bears defensive line so far this season. McCuen ranks second on the team with 11 tackles (two solo) after assisting on five tackles and a tackle for loss against Kean. McCuen also ranks second on the team with 2.0 tackle for loss in two games. McCuen had only season game action twice in his career prior to 2023 that came last season. McCuen tallied his first career sack against Alvernia in the Ursinus season opener.

SCOUTING THE PROFS: The Profs bounced back from a tough setback to Stevenson in their home opener to defeat McDaniel on the road, 49-28, last Saturday. Rowan blew the game open with 28 points in the second quarter after the game was tied at seven after the first. McDaniel cut the deficit down to 35-22 to start the fourth quarter before the Profs iced the game with two touchdowns in the span of a minute. Sophomore quarterback Thomas Goldsborough was efficient for the Profs as he threw for 252 yards on 11-of-14 passing and three touchdown passes to earn the NJAC Offensive player of the week honors. Rowan features multiple backs that get significant carries as first-year Nunes Bukula IV was named NJAC Rookie of the week behind his two touchdown showing against the Green Terror last week. Senior James Fara did not play against McDaniel but still leads the team with his 62 yards gained against Stevenson in the team's opener. First-year Tyshawn Bookman also added a touchdown for the Profs last week and 50 rushing yards. Junior wide receiver Kevin Degnan caught a 97-yard touchdown pass last week and leads the team with 161 yards on six catches.

On defense, junior linebacker Vincent Guarino leads the team with 22 tackles (13 solo) while having 1.5 TFL. First-year defensive lineman Carter Williams impressed against McDaniel and was named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week after totaling three tackles (one solo), 1.5 tackle for losses, a sack, and a forced fumble. Junior linebacker Nick Cerulli ran an interception back for a touchdown against McDaniel while junior defensive lineman Eric Hill leads the team with a pair of sacks that came against the Green Terror.
