WILMINGTON, DEL. – The Ursinus College men's golf team wrapped up their three-round tournament at the DuPont Country Club by finishing in 10th place at the Northeast Shootout on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears shot their best round of the meet and second lowest season by combing for a 328 on the day. Ursinus combined for a final tally of 1,008 behind shooting a 342 in round one and a 338 during their second round. Swarthmore College won the team title tallying a final team score of 873, with Hamilton and Farmingdale College rounding out the top-three.
Five Bears competed during the second day of the competition at the DuPont Country Club, a par-71 course that stretches over 6,7763-yards.
Senior
Nick Troha followed up his rounds yesterday of an 82 and 77 by finishing with an 83 today combining for a total of 242. Troha finished tied for 41st overall, while shooting a 42 on the front nine and a 41 over the final nine holes. He collected three birdies throughout his tournament and closed out his day with five consecutive pars from holes 14 though 18.
Classmate
Evan Coffey saved his best performance for the final round shooting a season-low seven-over 78 to finish tied for 43rd. Coffey shot an 87 in his opening round and an 80 during his second time through before topping his previous season best of 79 from the Turtle Creek Intercollegiate back in October. He earned birdies on the par-5 2nd and par-4 9th, while signing for a 37 through the first nine holes.
Sophomore
Jimmy Cage collected a 92 over his final 18 holes finishing in 58th, while first-year
Brandon Mongan finished just behind tied for 59th overall after signing for an 84. Mongan's fired a career-low on the day behind shooting a 40 over the front nine and closing out his round with a 44. His day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 8th hole and totaled five pars throughout the round.
Senior
Billy Cardino shined throughout his round finishing eight shots lower than yesterday's score tallying an 83 and combing for an overall score of 267. Cardino finished 62nd overall tallying birdies on the par-3 8th and par-4 16th holes.
The Bears will return to action on Sunday as they will field two teams that compete at the Albright College and Dickinson College Spring Invitationals.
