KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Ursinus College men's golf team turned in its best performance of the season, finishing third at the Bear Invitational during the two-day tournament.
Nine Bears competed at Berkleigh Golf Club, a par-72 course stretching 6,729 yards. Ursinus fielded two teams, finishing third (624) and seventh (592), respectively. Penn College won the tournament with a team total of 607, followed by Albright College (611) in second. DeSales University (638) placed fourth, and Penn State Berks (648) rounded out the top five.
The Bears broke the 36-hole school record of 627, set just last week at the DeSales Fall Classic, by posting a team score of 624. Ursinus recorded a 319 on Friday, followed by a 305 on Saturday, theie third-lowest 18-hole score in program history.
Senior
Jimmy Cage led the Bears' lineup, tying for ninth overall with rounds of 78 and 74. He finished 8-over par, tallying four birdies and 23 pars over 36 holes. First-year
JP Hoban continued his strong fall, carding a 79 on Friday and a 74 on Saturday. His tournament was highlighted by three birdies over his final nine holes, finishing 2-under on the back nine.
Junior
Brandon Mongan placed 20th overall at 13-over, with rounds of 80 and 77. On Saturday, Mongan shot a 4-over 39 on the front nine, then closed with a 1-over 38. First-year
Jason Walsh (T-31st) and sophomore
Aidan Bonczek (33rd) rounded out the Bears' top squad, finishing with 166 and 167, respectively.
Junior
Trevor Maden led the Ursinus B-Team, placing 28th overall with a two-day total of 163, including rounds of 77 and 86.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19, at The Melee, their fall season finale.
