The Ursinus Bears Football Team heads down to Baltimore to take on No. 3 Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.

Last week, the Bears overwhelmed McDaniel 52-0 at home. Ursinus got an interception on the Green Terror's first drive of the game that advanced deep into Bears territory and responded with a touchdown. Ursinus scored on its first three offensive possessions and got a pick-6 late in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead at halftime. The Bears continued to pull away from McDaniel by forcing four interceptions and added 24 points in the second half while eclipsing the 50-point mark for the first time this season. It was the second straight shutout of McDaniel after their 42-0 win down in Westminster last season.

Meanwhile, The Blue Jays rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off No. 19 Carnegie Mellon 28-27 at home this past Saturday. Johns Hopkins fell behind 17-0 to the Tartans in the second quarter and 24-7 at halftime after a late first half touchdown from Carnegie Mellon. The Blue Jays got within 27-14 after three quarters and scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good to complete the comeback with just over seven minutes left in regulation.

LAST MEETING: Last season, the Bears suffered a 16-7 setback to the Blue Jays at home. After Ursinus gained the early 7-0 lead, the Blue Jays responded to a missed field goal with a 17-yard touchdown pass on 4th down that tied the game at seven. Johns Hopkins took advantage of multiple miscues to take a 16-7 lead and hold from there.

DEUCES: Junior wide receiver Aidan Roselle had a career day for the Bears this past Saturday against McDaniel. He caught six passes for 117 yards and the first two touchdowns of his collegiate career. He recorded the Bears first 100+ yard receiving game of the season and recorded a 38-yard kick return that set up an Ursinus touchdown to start the third quarter. He now leads the team with 18 receptions and 305 yards in his first full season as a starter with the Bears.

GUESS WHO: Senior wide receiver Markel Roberts-Jackson has had a knack for finding the end zone this season and found it twice this past Saturday against McDaniel. Roberts-Jackson scored two receiving touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career to extend his touchdown scoring streak to all five games this season. He caught two passes for 66 yards as well and now ranks second in the Centennial with six receiving touchdowns. Roberts-Jackson has now scored a touchdown in seven of the last eight games he has played dating back to the Gettysburg game in week nine of the 2024 season.

JUICE BOYS: A pair of Ursinus defensive backs now lead the Centennial Conference in interceptions after the Bears snagged four interceptions from McDaniel this past Saturday. Junior Kendall Robinson and sophomore defensive back Nick Strusowski now have four interceptions on the season after each grabbing one against McDaniel. The duo helped the Bears complete their first four-interception game since Dickinson during the 2022 season and the team extended their lead on the Centennial with 13 interceptions while now ranking second in all of Division III to just Randolph-Macon who has 14. Strusowski also ranks second in the Centennial with four pass break-ups and Robinson has three interceptions in his last two games.

GO DJ, THAT'S MY DJ: Senior defensive back D.J. Clarke added to the Bears secondary success against McDaniel by running back a 30-yard interception for a touchdown in the second quarter. Clarke became the third second Bear this season to run an interception back for a touchdown and grabbed his first interception since the 2023 season opener against Alvernia. Clarke has 10 solo tackles this season and a trio of pass break-ups.

NAME TO WATCH: Senior running back Jaden Louis has seen his role in the Bears rushing attack expand over the past few weeks. Louis made his largest impact this past Saturday against McDaniel when he rushed for a season-high 44 yards with a touchdown. It was his most yards since having 46 against McDaniel in 2023 and he now has a touchdown in two of the last three Ursinus games. Louis missed the 2024 season due to an injury but has exceled in limited action over his career with the Bears. He has already topped his single-season total in rushing yards as he now sits third on the team with 96.

KEY TO KICKING: Sophomore kicker/punter Ben Kiedrowski made his Ursinus football debut this past Saturday and did not disappoint. Kiedrowski entered in the second half for senior Jordan Carr and was flawless by converting all three extra points, a 29-yard field goal, and nailed a 69-yard punt that was the longest in the Centennial Conference so far this season. Kiedrowski was a member of the Ursinus Men's Soccer team last season before switching to the football team. His field goal was also the first successfully converted field goal of the season for the Bears.

SCOUTING THE BLUE JAYS: Graduate student quarterback Bay Harvey is back in a big way from an injury last season as he ranks third in the Centennial Conference with 1,213 passing yards with 10 touchdown passes to just two interceptions. Harvey also has 162 rushing yards and three touchdowns as well. Senior running back Geoff Schroeder is tied for third in the Centennial with 346 rushing yards and a Centennial-leading 10 rushing touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Cole Crotty leads the Centennial with 33 receptions and is second with 516 receiving yards to go with four touchdown receptions.

On defense, junior linebacker Browning Trainer ranks second in the Centennial with 43 tackles (24 solo) and senior defensive lineman Isaac Urquidi is tied for third in the Centennial Conference with six tackles for loss. Senior defensive lineman Kellen Gibson is tied for the Centennial lead with four sacks while juniors Will Seibert and Sawyer Olson have three apiece to showcase the Blue Jays deep pass rush. Senior linebacker Jack Smith ranks second on the team with 41 tackles (15 solo) with 4.0 tackles for loss and two sacks while senior defensive back Jack Schondelmayer has a team-leading two interceptions.
