ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Sophia Cooper placed second overall, leading the Ursinus College women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Monday afternoon.
Five Bears competed at the Lehigh Country Club, a par-70 course that stretches 5,702-yards. Ursinus posted a team score of 406 (+126) to finish third, while Kean University claimed the team title with a final tally of 395. Host Muhlenberg College finished second at 397, and Eastern University rounded out the four-team field with a 454.
Cooper signed for a career-low 19-over 89 to lead the Ursinus lineup and place second overall. She tallied three pars during her round, carding a 46 on the front nine and a 43 on the back. Her previous career low came at the Ursinus Spring Invitational, where she shot a 98 and tied for 15th.
Sophomore
McKenzi Thompson tied for 11th, with a 32-over 102. Her round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 11th hole. She recorded three pars, including two over her final three holes, and finished with a 48 on the back nine.
Junior
Payton Fritz placed 14th with a 107, four strokes better than her score at the Bears Spring Invite. She collected a birdie on the par-4 2nd hole and tied for the team lead with three pars. Senior
Elliot Schott followed closely in 15th, carding a 108. Her round featured a par on the 15th hole, and her 47 on the back nine was the second lowest among the team. Senior
Olivia Bonnet rounded out the Bears' lineup, finishing 21st with a 146.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, April 26th to compete at the Centennial Conference Championships at the Waynesboro Country Club.
