Shaffer to Step Down as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Corey Shaffer, who spent the last three years as head coach of the Ursinus College men's lacrosse team, has announced he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the fall ball season for the team in October.

"Ursinus has been my home for the past eight years, and this program has shaped me in ways I'll carry forever," Shaffer. "More than anything, it's the people and the relationships that have made this place so special. I got married, became a father, and experienced so many of life's milestones while being surrounded by this community. Coaching here has allowed me to grow alongside the young men I've been fortunate to lead, and those bonds will stay with me long after I step away from the sidelines. Ursinus will always be a part of me, and I will always be a part of Team Ursinus."

Shaffer initially joined the Ursinus Men's Lacrosse coaching staff prior in the Fall of 2018 under the tutelage of former head coach Gary Mercadante.  He first served as defensive coordinator and was instrumental in helping lead the Bears to their first Centennial Conference Championship in 2019. Shaffer was initially promoted to Interim Head Coach before the 2023 season before being subsequently promoted midway through the season.

"Corey Shaffer has passionately served the dedicated student-athletes on the Ursinus College Men's Lacrosse program for the past eight years," Director of Athletics Erin Stroble said.  All of us on Team Ursinus are grateful for Coach Shaffer's dedication to our student-athletes and the success of our program. Corey will be missed, and I wish him and his family the best in their new venture."

Ursinus will begin the search for Shaffer's replacement immediately.
