Men's Wrestling Dominates Centennial Quad Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus men's wrestling team earned a pair of dominant victories over McDaniel and Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Quad Meet.

 
The Bears first defeated host McDaniel, 36-8, before closing out the day with a 40-8 victory over Gettysburg. With the wins, Ursinus improved to 10-2 in dual meets this season and a perfect 4-0 in Centennial Conference action. The victories marked Ursinus' fifth straight this season and its 21st consecutive Centennial Conference dual-meet win since 2021.

Ursinus 36, McDaniel 8

The Bears got off to a quick start as senior Michael Adams pinned Romeo Tsai in the first period at 125 pounds to give Ursinus a 6-0 lead. Adams defended a shot attempt from Tsai before converting the fall.
 

McDaniel responded with a 10-9 decision at 133 pounds, but junior Andrew Schaen put Ursinus back in front with a 9-3 decision over Andrew Dolezel at 141. At 149 pounds, McDaniel's nationally second-ranked Thomas Monn earned a 16-1 technical fall in the second period over junior Samuel Teti to cut the Bears' lead to 9-8. Ursinus answered at 157 as junior Braden Kmak recorded a 10-8 decision over Andre Allen to take a 12-8 advantage. Trailing 7-5 in the third period, Kmak secured a single-leg takedown, drew a stalling point, and added a riding-time point to seal the victory.

 
The Bears extended their lead to 15-8 at 165 as senior Derek Giordano posted a 5-0 decision over Austen Kuntz. Senior Anthony Cerulli followed with a 15-0 technical fall over McDaniel's Alex Taylor at 174 to push the advantage to 20-8. Junior Jake Gross added a 14-3 major decision at 184 to make it 24-8. Ursinus closed out the meet with falls from juniors Sean Cowan and No. 11 Mohamed Abdelatty at 197 and 285 pounds, respectively. Cowan built an early 10-0 lead before using an arm bar for the pin at the 6:18 mark. Abdelatty capped the dual with a near-side cradle to pin Kaden Bryan at 4:22.

Ursinus 40, Gettysburg 8

Adams again gave Ursinus an early lead, earning an 11-0 major decision over Gettysburg's Tank Spelta at 125. Sophomore Blaise Verdino followed with a 7-4 decision over Torey Falkinburg at 133 to extend the Bears' lead to 7-0.
 

After the Bullets won by decision at 141, junior Evan Shriberg pinned Kyle Collins in the third period to make it 13-3. Leading 8-6, Shriberg defended a single-leg attempt before securing underhooks and throwing Collins to his back for the fall. Kmak extended the Ursinus advantage to 16-3 with a 13-7 decision over Gavin Pascoe at 157. The win marked a strong performance for Kmak, who is ranked fifth in Region III and owns victories over Merchant Marine's third-ranked Logan Weaver and Pascoe, who is ranked second in the region.
 

Gettysburg earned a technical fall at 165, but Ursinus responded as Cerulli recorded a 33-second pin to extend the lead to 22-8 with three bouts remaining. Cerulli secured a single leg and transitioned to a near-side cradle for the quick fall.
 

The Bears closed the dual with three straight bonus-point victories. Junior Ben Sanders pinned Ryan Gallagher in 28 seconds at 184, capitalizing on a headlock throw from neutral. Cowan followed with a pin of Phil Nave at the 6:52 mark, while Abdelatty sealed the 40-8 victory with a fall over Simon Taylor at 2:06.
 

Ursinus returns to action Thursday, February 5th, traveling to Muhlenberg College for its regular-season finale before competing at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday, Feb. 14.
