Groff was a four-year starter and co-captain of the field hockey team and, despite never playing the sport before coming to Ursinus, an integral member of a lacrosse squad that reached the national championship game three times and won the NCAA title in 1986. A terrific defender, Groff racked up a litany of honors as a senior in 1987, when she was a first team USWLA All-American, an honorable mention Brine All-American, an All-Philadelphia Area and All-Pennsylvania selection, and a team captain.
